Last Christmas I got a Clapper in my stocking.
In case you aren’t familiar with this magical invention it’s a sound activated electrical switch that has a famous jingle.
Clap On…Clap Off…The Clapper.
Now I had many Clappers when I was a kid – if you were thinking ‘I bet he had a bunch connected to the strangest combination of computers, televisions, and gizmos you ever saw’ you’d be absolutely right.
So when I got my new 2017 clapper I was gobsmacked.
At first I wondered if it had been purchased on ebay or found in the back of a garage – but that was not the case.
With the exception of a change in the address and copyright date – the package was exactly the same as it was in 1979. Not close, not sort of – word for word the same copy and the exact pictures I remembered.
I pondered this for a moment and considered all of the possibilities before concluding that the good people at Joseph Enterprises Inc. are executing with a brilliance and focus I’m sure fills their checking account reliably. Damn good show gents, bloody damn good show.
Did I mention I’m drinking PG Tips tea while writing this? In addition to tasting delicious I find it often causes exclamations that an anglophile might admire.
Anyway – the good people who make the clapper clearly worship conversion. They are simply running the “winningest ad” in the land of the dollar stores where you can buy one today. The box is ugly as could be and anyone with the smallest bit of design sensibility would want to upgrade the packaging.
Have you ever noticed that most of planet Earth’s best selling products have “ugly” packaging?
Take a look at your website’s landing pages – aka any page where you want people to do a specific thing. What feels like it is more in charge – conversion or pretty ?
There are spots where you can be pretty and pay no penalty – your about us page is a great example.
Have you made it simple to “Clap On” with you?
Is it easy to buy and is conversion in charge when people land on your pages?
Have you ever wondered what would happen if you told one of your customers to “Clap Off” ?
Here’s the bottom line for Entrepreneurs: keep things simple by placing conversion in charge, that will make you and your checkbook smile.
In the meantime I think I need to go connect a clapper to a router. Giggle.
